Penang 2015 - Day One

one of my favorite websites to surf, and i surf this sometimes on a daily basis, sometimes once in two days, is the malaysia airlines site. i just like looking at the destination, the price and i keep hoping to get good deals on one or twenty of my daily visits.

i came across one good deal recently. for the six of us, tickets would cost only RM700, and that was over a long weekend. that came to about RM120-ish per person. i was excited to say the least. the only consideration was the destination. it was between johor and penang. johor had legoland and penang had the beach. rock, paper, scissors, penang won - because i didn't want to be forced going into a theme park, actually.

so i booked a long weekend trip to penang. i wanted a purely relaxing holiday. since we got a good deal on the airfare, i decided to splurge a bit on the accommodation. the destination was already set - it was to be bath feringghi. i wanted a hotel with plentiful activities for the boys - kids club, good big pool and anything else so that i can get some time to myself.

a couple of weeks before the trip we found out that amir's school had entered a football tournament in penang. so i guess that worked out well. i had to tweak the original schedule however as hubby and amir and maybe asyraf will be away for a day or two, depending on amir's team performance.

we set out on friday afternoon, after friday prayers. luggage was quite light, lots of beach and swim wear for the boys. check-in at the airport was a bit long, i put it down to the long weekend. we had checked-in online and only had to drop the luggage but even that took longer than expected.

we were already full from our heavy breakfast late that morning so we went directly to the gate and waited to be called on board. the flight was quick. the boys complained about lack of food and video on demand. eksyen…just because they came back from a long haul flight a couple of months before.

we arrived in penang with our stomachs growling. hubby settled the car rental while i quickly ran up to the food court to get some take-aways. we had burgers and fries in the car before starting our journey as we estimated it could take a bit of time to get to the hotel seeing its a long weekend. we were right, it took almost an hour and a half to reach our destination.

once we got to the hotel, i went to check in and hubby went to park the car. check in was quick and we quickly went up and opened the balcony to breathe in the fresh seaside air.

we went for an early dinner as hubby and amir had a long journey the next day. it turned out that amir's tournament is on the main land and not on the island. seeing the tournament would start at 8am they had to make their way at 630am.

we walked to the nearby food court for dinner. as we were early there were plenty of free tables. they were quickly snapped up after 10-20 minutes of us being there. food was good, there were plenty of choices. i actually planned to come back and try more during our stay but that was taken out when i tweaked the itinerary. we took a slow walk back to the hotel after dinner. we had to get a few things for breakfast as they had no time to enjoy the hotel's breakfast. the boys also wanted to get some jersey and watches and lots of things at the night market stalls along the road, so they slowed down our walk even more.
