our second day started slow. i got us a 7-day shuttle pass and
booked our transfers before we arrived. the shuttle stop is just next door, a
total of 2 minutes walk. transfer to currumbin wildlife sanctuary was at
10.55am, therefore we had a relaxed morning, waking up quite late and having a
so-so breakfast (cold pizza from the night before) as we haven’t done our
grocery shopping.
at 10am, we went downstairs to the reception to settle our
check-in admin work since we were not able to do it when we arrived. the
reception gave us some basic info about the premise and guided us to the
shuttle stop.
we waited only about 15 minutes before the shuttle arrived.
the boys were overly excited and couldn’t stop talking during the 30 minutes
journey. currumbin wildlife sanctuary is quite a distance from surfers paradise
and we got to put down some places on our ‘to visit later but don’t know when’
list.
the sanctuary itself is cooling. it was a pretty hot day but
the wind was strong and the trees at the sanctuary shielded us from the direct
sun. as we got there quite late, we missed quite a bit of the shows on offer.
we targeted the shows after lunch –bird flight and sheep shearing – but we
missed the bird flight show as our lunch took longer than expected. the sheep
shearing show was a good one, though. we thoroughly enjoyed that.
overall the place was good. nicely kept, very tame animals,
the kangaroos and the ducks would walk towards the visitors, asking for food.
they had iguanas running around the sanctuary, it was a bit scary at first but i
got used to it after a while. we took the train throughout the sanctuary, which
was nice and relaxing. we even managed to take a family photo with a koala.
amir was supposed to hold it but he got antsy holding it saying the koala’s
grip was a bit tight so hubby held it instead. everyone looked tired after
walking around the sanctuary!
as predicted the boys fell asleep on the way back and kicked
up some fuss when we bypassed the apartment and went to coles at chevron
renaissance instead. we stocked up on breakfast, veggies, fruits and some
cleaning items. with bottles of water, cans of baked beans, big tub of milk, we
took a cab rather than walk home.
after putting away the items in the kitchen and freshening
up a bit, we went out for dinner. we saw a couple of halal outlets nearby and
opted for indian food for the rice. we walked along chevron renaissance and the
night market at the esplanade to return to the apartment.
we had an early night, everyone was still a bit tired from
the day before and trying to get used to the 2-hour difference.
