Japan 2016 - Universal Studios Japan

so we're back in theme parks today. we're quite excited because of the harry potter world. the weather forecast said its going to be quite cold and usj isn't so close by so i'm not really sure why we're so excited, honestly.

the walk to osaka station isn't as bad as yesterday. luggage-less maybe. and maybe because we can use whichever entrance we wanted unlike yesterday when we had to take the specific exit. it was about 15 minutes walk to osaka station and then we took the osaka loop line (which was slightly confusing - to get off the train or to stay on) to universal city station.

initially i booked a hotel at universal walk but seeing the apartment we stayed in, i'm glad i switched from the hotel. the apartment would have been much farther from the osaka train station and pulling luggage (especially on the confusing osaka look line) wouldn't make the trip any better. compared to universal studios hollywood, where we took the coach from the hotel and stopped right at the entrance, the train station made us walk through universal walk and pass by all the shops in it. that builds excitement in a way and made the walk to the entrance more exciting.

we took around 20 minutes to buy tickets and then we moved to the entrance. there was no queue but you can see it was crowded inside. waiting time for rides was nothing less than 30 minutes, some up to 120 minutes.

we went to the entrance of the harry potter wizarding world first to book our visiting time. we thought it'd be after lunch or later in the afternoon but we could go in almost immediately so we did. it was absolutely magical and the items on sale were even more magical, they could make your money disappear almost instantly. the boys were begging for wands but for rm200 each we had to say no.

ollivander's was the main attraction for the boys

there were 2 harry potter rides, if not for amira we would have taken both, but we didn't want to put her through a 170 minute wait time we had to forego the forbidden journey ride and the boys only went on the flight of the hippogriff. it was still pretty early in the day, if not i would have brought the boys for fish & chips lunch at the three broomsticks. i also wanted to try butterbeer but the queue was excruciating.

after the wizarding world of harry potter, we went to amity village to take the jaws ride. we could have had seafood lunch at amity village but we were in that hungry-not hungry phase so we walked on to jurassic park. the boys had their eyes on the jurassic park ride but we kept that til after lunch. we walked to san francisco and then to new york and had lunch at louie's ny pizza parlour.

amira took a short nap after lunch as the boys went on the spiderman ride. they missed the parade but i was able to watch the whole show and i had a good place (thanks to amira sleeping, no one disturbed me) to watch it from.

we gave one section of hollywood a miss to go back to jurassic park for the ride the boys wanted. ariff opted out of the ride and sat with me in the cold, looking at the fried pancake sold in the stalls opposite the bench we were sitting on. ok, i couldn't just look so i chased ariff to grab me a cup.

it was getting dark so we walked back to the entrance after the jurassic park ride. asyraf begged for another ride, the hollywood dream ride but we said only if the wait time was not long. too bad for him, a 120 minute wait time was too much. of course, tears followed.

we went to the kiddies area - the universal wonderland that housed the snoopy studios and sesame street fun world. we spent over 2 hours here going from the outdoor area to indoor and back outdoor, the boys taking almost all rides in the area. even amira got to go on a couple of rides and she got to stretch her feet at the snoopy's sound stage adventure, the indoor playground.

we left just as the theme park was closing at 8pm and looked for dinner at universal walk. we settled for tempura and udon, for the hot soup, before making our way back to universal city station to take the train to kita.

we got home at almost 11pm and were so tired and cold and sleepy. thank god there's only 1 more luggage-pulling to be done.
