Japan 2016 - Disneysea

we are still in our disney phase. the boys still enjoy disney theme parks and we're hoping to be able to visit all the parks while they're in this phase. we've gone to two - california and paris, tokyo will be the boys' third the same as me. i visited the california park in 1984, tokyo in 1985 and paris in 1996. the hong kong and shanghai ones are so-so to me, i want to visit but its not a strong of a pull. but that orlando, that one...i want so so badly to visit.

anyway, our second day in japan, was set aside for disneysea. i was quite excited, i've heard so many good reviews about disneysea. we woke up quite early despite the early start the day before. after subuh we woke the boys up, giving them loads of time to get out of bed and get ready. we thought they'd need time to start their engines. while the boys were getting ready, i fried some eggs and toasted some bread. i left amira's food outside to be defrosted for dinner, she had a jar of baby food for breakfast.

breakfast took a long time, showers took an even longer time. we left the house after 9am and walked towards urayasu station to catch a bus to the parks. the walk took us about 10 minutes, could be faster if we were familiar with the area. its not too difficult to find, just step into the main road, from the smaller road that housed the apartment, walk straight a few blocks and you'll reach the station. there were many small shops and fast food outlets around the station. the bus station was across the street and we had to take the flyover.

the landlord gave accurate description of the bus to take and where to take it. but once we reached the bus station, it wasn't as easy. all buses only carry japanese words, we couldn't determine which would take us to disney area. we missed the first bus but we expected that. hubby caught the second bus and asked the driver who told us he wasn't going that way. a bit odd as that was the bus number going our way. that bus left. then a man walked up to us, asking where we were going. he explained and he said, take the one that was coming. again, a bit off as that was the one that said wasn't going to disney parks. we spent almost an hour at the bus stop, finally getting on the third bus that stopped and making our way to disney park.

amira slept along the way, ariff and akmal looked tired, asyraf was getting restless as his gadget needed to be charged, only amir was still going strong. the bus ride was about 30 minutes and i managed to get some shut eye with amira. it dropped us somewhere in between the two parks and we walked about 5 minutes to disneysea entrance. at the entrance i saw a bus stand for buses to urayasu and note down the time for our return journey. we wanted to spend as much time in the park but didn't want to miss the bus. seeing that its passed 10am, we opted for the 7-ish return journey.

there was a long queue in front of the entrance but they were mainly for the ticket booths. we went to the entrance and did not have to wait at all to be let it. i was blown away by disneysea. its very much different from the normal disney parks yet it retained its disney-ness. mickey's ears were everywhere but its not as colourful and cartoony. we could see people sitting down on the floor in front of mediterranean harbour, presumably waiting for the first show to start. we're giving shows a miss this time, if we catch them its great, if not we're ok. we just want to enjoy the park and take in as many rides as we can.

asyraf had his eye on the main ride at the park, the one right smack in the middle - journey to the centre of the earth in mysterious island. ok, we'll get there but we need to walk around the park first. we walked towards american waterfront. the sun was out this morning but it was very, very cold. there were many transport in this area - the big city vehicles, the electric railway and the transit steamer line. we walked around to the huge ship at the end of the waterfront, the s.s. columbia, and then to waterfront park to take the railway towards port discovery. that gave us a bird's eye view of the two areas and gave the boys some ideas of the rides to take. once we arrived at port discovery, the boys ran towards aquatopia for their first ride. akmal's big enough to join his brothers this time around so i'm left with sleeping amira most of the time.

there was no queue at the ride and the boys were out in 15 minutes. we walked round the area and then towards lost river delta. there we hopped into the steamer line which took us round the remaining area of disneysea - arabian coast and mermaid lagoon and back to american waterfront. we got out and walked towards the middle section of the park - mysterious island.

asyraf was bursting out of his skin at this time. he badly wanted to take the journey to the centre of the earth ride. but when we got there, he was like a balloon deflating as the ride was closed. good thing though, it'll be open later during the day and we've gone to 4 areas so we have not many areas left to explore.

we walked across mysterious island towards arabian coast which was really beautiful. our stomachs were grumbling by the time we reached the area and opted for shrimp curry at casbah food court. food is super expensive in the park, good thing we're only having lunch here. the rice and curry was good though, it really filled our tummy. after lunch we walked around the area and took the two-storey carousel, the caravan carousel. its so beautiful and i'm so excited for amira's first ride. she, on the other hand, was all cold and cosy in her carrier, she didn't notice she was in a carousel!

we took a leisurely walk around the area before making our way to mermaid lagoon. we spent the longest time here, the boys going on almost every ride - flounder's flying fish coaster (akmal's first roller coaster) and scuttle's scooters at the external part then to the jumping jellyfish, blowfish balloon race and the whirlpool in the indoor part of mermaid lagoon, called triton's kingdom. amira got to run around a bit, free of the carrier in the indoor kingdom.

when we came out it was almost 5pm but it was very dark. we started our walk towards the entrance, taking the mysterious island route as we promised asyraf his ride. once we got there we saw that the waiting time was 190 minutes, we looked at each other and said...nope! needless to say, asyraf was not a happy camper. he was dragging his feet behind us, mumbling under his breath. what to do abang, we cant afford that kind of wait. we continued walking towards the entrance and passed the mediterranean harbour, which was a sight to behold all lit up in the dark.

we got to the entrance around 6pm and decided to wait for the next available bus back to urayasu station, which was at 6.52pm. we arrived in urayasu station at 7.30pm and stopped by 7-11 on the way home for bread and eggs.

once we got home, i heated the packed brahim nasi goreng and ayam masak merah for dinner. the boys were happy to get out of their winter jackets. they're pretty ok with the cold weather, its not really that cold. it was quite freezing while we were waiting for the bus because we weren't doing anything but if we stay active, its manageable. the boys were mainly in their room on their gadgets and hubby was trying to feed amira, so i had the kitchen all to myself, which was great to have some quiet time after a day in the crowded park.

all in all, i do love disneysea. its surprisingly small. not sure if its really small or just felt that way because we gave quite a bit of rides a miss. i think they had really good rides, balanced between kiddie rides and big people rides but most required fast pass and we weren't really up to walking back to certain areas from other areas. if the rides had no queue the boys will go on them, if the rides require fast pass, they'd give them a miss. i'm guessing because of that it seemed smaller than disneyland california where we took every single ride.
