we got a shuttle from anaheim to universal studios when we purchased the city pass. it was a double deck minion bus so our universal studios experience started from the hotel itself.
the ride into los angeles took about an hour but the driver took the hour to give some tips about the park. turned out his tips worked out really well because we managed to work out our schedule for the day and see everything we needed within the park's opening hours. we actually got a second day entrance when we purchased the city pass with them so we thought if we were not able to do the whole park in one day, we could come back but the driver told us it would be not crowded and it really was, so the second day can be scraped.
we saw a couple of characters on our way in even before our first ride in the park.
our first stop once we got into the park was the minion ride. the driver said it would be the longest as its the latest ride and he was right, it had the longest wait at 10 minutes! waiting 10 minutes when the boys were still excited and all geared up was no biggie. the minions ride was excellent, the boys absolutely loved it. ok, so akmal cried and hung on to his daddy's dear life and ariff came out crying but it seriously was excellent.
after the ride, we walked down to the lower lot to do the big rides downstairs. we targeted the transformers ride first. we stopped to meet optimus prime on the way and it was such a fangirl moment for me. there was no queue at all and we could walk in all the way and straight away sat for the ride. asyraf could even go on the ride twice.
after that the boys and hubby went on the jurassic park ride. unfortunately i could not follow even though i really wanted to. that too wasn't a long wait and we finished the lower lot in less than an hour.
the boys started to hint that they were hungry and since there wasn't much choice at the lower lot, we went back to the upper lot for lunch. they were refurbishing the upper lot to put up a harry potter ride and closed the pizza outlet, which was my first choice for lunch. hubby saw a place that sells soups and sandwiches so we opted for that. the clam chowder there was delicious.
we slowly walked towards the studio tour tram and took photos with every character we came across on the way. akmal still couldn't get over his fear of the character costumes and the fact that scooby doo chased him earlier in the day didn't make things any better, so he was not in any of the pictures.
then we went on the studio tour. our guide was super funny and the tour was great. i think the boys finally could grasp some concept of movie making. they loved the king kong 3d and jaws coming out of the water and the 747 all torn apart for war of the world and the earthquake and flood simulation. they could even identify norman bates outside the bates motel but that's because they watch the bates motel on telly.
asyraf wanted another round on the minion ride but the queue had grown into a 20-minute wait and we didn't want to wait since its already the later part of the day. we took them on the kiddie ride outside the minion house instead.
before leaving, we checked out two shows - the special effects show and the water world show. both were wonderful but the water world show was totally wow! watching the fire and the bangs and the water spraying and the plane crashing down was a great way to end our outing at the universal studios.
we got to see many characters and take many photos of the props around the park easily as the crowd was not big.
the shuttle came to pick us up at half past five, enough time for us to take a stroll in the shop to get some t-shirts and souveniours. we left the park at 6pm and it was a two-hour ride back to anaheim due to the evening rush hour. we had a quick dinner at mimi's cafe before calling it a day.
