as we arrived on saturday and had a relaxing sunday following our arrival, i opted for a visit to the golden gate bridge. google map showed me that the golden gate bridge is only (ceh…only konon) 3.5 miles or a little over an hour's walk from where we're staying so we opted for different ways to get to and from the bridge - a bus from here and walk back from there. of course, there's two things we're worried about when we decided on that - the boys and the weather.
alhamdulillah, both did not pose a problem at all come the day. getting the bus to the bridge was very easy actually, the bus drivers were extremely helpful. shouting out when its our stop and pointing out where to take the connecting bus (we had to take two buses from fisherman's wharf, no 30 and no 28). buying tickets can be a bit of a hassle especially it being our first day in the US, as we had no small change to spare and only changes were accepted on board.
once we were on the bus however, it was all smooth. the ride was quick, the roads were easy to get familiarised with, the stops were pretty easy to find - yes, the big bright red bridge was a big clue.
once there, it was camera snapping time all the way. we went down to the fort point to get the full view of the bridge. it was either that or walk on the bridge and we could not do both and walk back to the wharf with the boys in tow.
the boys wanted to go into the fort and walk all the way up, which was a good idea as we got the best view of the bridge from there.
then we started our walk back, via the bay trail and the marina boulevard, stopping at starbucks on as akmal's feet are 'hungry and thirsty'. after a dose of hot chocolate all around, we continued our way passing fort mason centre, walking along bay street and passing ghirardelli square which was sooo chocolatey. it was a full 6 hours outing with almost zero complains from the boys, which we were so proud of.
the day after, we spent time at the fisherman's wharf. a bay cruise is a must for us. its nice to recall and be amazed at the distance we (especially the boys) walked the day before. we spent an hour on the cruise. it was so cold and we got off all hungry.
we took a short trip to the aquarium of the bay before looking for a place to have lunch at pier 39. with the various offers in the pier 39 booklet we got, we chose the pier market seafood restaurant for its 20% discount offer.
we took a leisurely walk around the pier and then around fisherman's wharf, occasionally stopping for souveniours at the many, many shops in the area. we got home quite early, around 4-ish. as it was still bright outside, we decided to take the cable car downtown.
we got to see lovely christmas decorations at the union square, at macy's, tiffany, barney's. we walked around for about an hour before stopping for light dinner at lori's dinner and taking the cable car back home. we got home just in time as it started to drizzle as we open the front door.
