anyway, we booked the hotel a couple of days before we left. there were a couple of hotels we set our sights on but decided on doubletree by hilton due to the location and the two double beds. we're coming to the stage where we need to get two rooms when we're traveling but for now, if a room can fit the six of this, we'd take it. so rooms with double beds are very much welcomed. its not the cheapest of the bunch we looked at but considering the long weekend, last minute booking, its pretty ok.
we left for JB late Saturday morning. we should have left earlier but with breakfast and laundry and the fact that we just couldn't get out of bed, it was 1030am before we started our journey. the drive to JB took almost 5 hours with the horrible jam at nilai and the hour-long lunch break at ayer keroh and the 10-minute nap break at one r&r and the driver swap exercise an hour away from JB. the late start kinda put my itinerary in chaos because i was expecting to arrive by lunchtime and to have lunch in JB. anyhoo…we arrived around 4pm, checked-in and went up to the room.
we booked a room with two double beds (per above) but the double beds don't look like double beds to me. as soon as we walked into the room, i could smell cigarette which totally put me off. our fault for not requesting for a non-smoking room. we called the front desk, if they had another room that we could move to. they called back to say there's one room available but with a king bed, we quickly said yes, wanting desperately to get out of the smelly room.
hubby left for his football game soon as we got to the room, taking amir & asyraf with him. he had two games that weekend, one in kulai and one nearby changi. with half of the group out of the room, i got down to unpacking, requesting for extra bedding and well…napping. the two boys left entertained themselves with their own brand of 'cikgu-cikgu' game.
hubby, amir & asyraf came back after 8pm, just in time for us to look for dinner. i had a couple of medan selera addresses on the list but hubby wanted a quick dinner nearby so we went to city square which was just a few hundred meters from the hotel. he also wanted to look for football boots so that's another reason why we (he actually) opted for city square. we had dinner at the food court on level 6, not a bad selection, the boys had chicken rice, hubby had ayam penyet and i had chicken chop.
the next day, we left the hotel around 9am and set out for nusajaya. i planned for a leisurely breakfast at lat's place before going into little big club, as a surprise for akmal. i chose that above legoland because we only had the morning before making our way into singapore for hubby's evening game. plus it was covered and had air-conditing. we'll set legoland aside for another time.
unfortunately, lat's place wasn't open at 9am for breakfast despite the website saying they would do so on weekends and public holidays. when it finally opened at 10am, we went there shelving the little big club entrance for another hour. amir and asyraf were grumbling at first, saying the place was for little kids and it wasn't for them. but once we got on the first ride, the train ride, asyraf squeezed my arm so tight, quietly whispering 'bestnyaaaaa park ni'. yeay, score 100 for mummy!!
the boys went on all the rides and watched the thomas sing-a-long show before we put an end to their theme park visit and dragged them back to the car. needless to say, they were not happy. they were especially not happy being in the car for another 2.5 hours.
once we got to the stadium however, they were in much better mood as they could run around the track and have their own kick-a-bout outside the pitch.
after the game we went looking for a place to have dinner and zabihah took us to century square where we had pretty good nasi padang. it was another 1.5 hours in the car for our journey back to the hotel. by the time we got to the room, i could hardly feel my legs.
because the day before was packed from the word go, i decided on room service breakfast. nice to splurge once in a while. we left the hotel with our tummies full as we didn't want to have to make a pit stop for food and wanted to get home as quickly as we could. the journey home thankfully wasn't as bad and we were home just after lunchtime.
all in all, it was a good short time over the long weekend. the boys grumbled at not being able to jump into the pool and at the length of time we spent in the car but they got to spend time at little big club that they were not expecting, so that pretty much balances it out. hubby and i are kinda put off long drive for now. we'll be facing longer drive in a few months time, though.
